I long to run with the lions
I share their need to be free
To lie with them out in the sunshine
In a land yet foreign to me.
I want to speak in a language
That only lions can hear
And see through their eyes
The sorrow as civilization draws near.
I need to whisper, "Hey --- Shumba,"
Then thrill to the sound of his roar
And there in that African moment
To know him as never before.
I'd play with the cubs of that lion
Become a part of his pride
And in the heat of the jungle
Stand majestically by his side
We'll wait for the coolness of evening
And gaze at the setting sun
And just for a magical moment
The lion and I will be one.

Shumba (In Shona)
Ndinoshuva kumhanya neshumba
Ndinoda kuvona kusunuguka kwadzo
Ndigozvambarara kurara nadzo pamushana
Ini ndiri muyeni muniyaka imomo.
Ndinoda kutaura norurimi
Gunonzwikwa neshumba chete
Ndichivonera nomumaziso adzo
Kusuruvara kwadzo nokuti ruzivo rwaswedera.
Ndinoda kuzevezera kuti "iwe Shumba"
Ndigobvundirira ndanzwa kuvomba kwayo
Pachinguvana chomuAfrica ichoco
Ndigoizivisisa shumba iyoyi nokusingaperi.
Ndichatamba navana veshumba iyoyi
Ndigogara nadzo muboka rayo
Mumasango munezuva rinopisa
Ndigomira ndakazvikudza parutivi rwayo.
Tichamirira kutonhorera kwamadekwana
Tigotarira zuva richidoka
