Sparks

I read the papers — I watch the news,
I really make an effort to consider all the views.
An important message that is apparent to me is
that people need to give up all this bigotry.

Ya know — crime is on the increase,
There are muggings in the street;
The homeless needing shelter
or just a bite to eat.

There is dope in the playgrounds —
Children's lives are lost;
The pushers make a profit — regardless of the cost.
And there are drive-by shootings
Without apparent cause —
This Mother Rapper's saying
We need to take a pause.

This "Stop, Look and Listen"
Won't get it any more —
We have to make a difference
Now and really help the poor.

And while I'm on the subject —
and rapping as I please —
Apartheid is injustice — a bigoted disease.

AIDS is on the rampage — jobs are hard to find —
Perhaps we need to listen to God's warnings to mankind.

You and I can be the difference,
the candles in the dark —
To get a good fire going —
It only takes a spark.

And that's no bum rap — you dig??
